“Iar pe când mâncau ei, Iisus, luând pâine şi binecuvântând, a frânt şi le-a dat ucenicilor, zicând: « Luaţi, mâncaţi, acesta este Trupul Meu ». Şi luând paharul şi mulţumind, le-a dat, zicând: « Beţi dintru acesta toţi, că acesta este Sângele Meu, al Legii celei Noi b, carele pentru mulţi se varsă spre iertarea păcatelor. »” (Sfânta Evanghelie după Matei, capitolul 26, versetele 26-28)

Cinei Tale celei de Taină, astăzi Fiul lui Dumnezeu părtaș mă primește; că nu voi spune vrăjmașilor Tăi taina Ta, nici sărutare Îți voi da ca Iuda. Ci ca tâlharul mă mărturisesc Ție: Pomenește-mă Doamne întru Împărăția Ta! (Rugăciune din Triod, care se cântă în Joia Mare în loc de cântarea Heruvicului.) Evanghelia înainte de spălarea picioarelor, Mt 26, 2-20:

Şi după ce a sfârşit Iisus toate cuvintele acestea, le-a zis ucenicilor Săi:

„Ştiţi că peste două zile vor fi Paştile şi Fiul Omului Se va da să fie răstignit“.

Atunci arhiereii şi bătrânii poporului s'au adunat în curtea arhiereului care se numea Caiafa

şi împreună s'au sfătuit ca prin vicleşug să-L prindă pe Iisus şi să-L omoare.

Dar ziceau: „Nu în ziua praznicului, ca să nu se facă tulburare în popor“.

Şi fiind Iisus în Betania, în casa lui Simon Leprosul,

a venit la El o femeie având un alabastru cu mir de mare preţ şi l-a turnat pe capul lui Iisus, pe când El şedea la masă.

Şi văzând ucenicii, au murmurat: „Pentru ce risipa aceasta?,

că mirul acesta se putea vinde scump, iar banii să se dea săracilor“.

Dar Iisus, ştiindu-le gândul, le-a zis: „De ce-i faceţi supărare femeii? că bun lucru a făcut ea pentru Mine;

că pe săraci îi aveţi pururea cu voi, dar pe Mine nu Mă aveţi pururea a.

Că ea, turnând acest mir pe trupul Meu, spre îngroparea Mea a făcut-o.

Adevăr vă spun: Oriunde se va propovădui Evanghelia aceasta, în toată lumea, se va spune şi ce a făcut ea, spre pomenirea ei“.

Atunci unul din cei doisprezece, cel numit Iuda Iscarioteanul, ducându-se la arhierei

le-a zis: „Ce vreţi să-mi daţi, şi eu vi-l voi da în mână?“ Iar ei i-au dat treizeci de arginţi.

Şi de atunci el căuta un prilej potrivit ca să-L dea în mâna lor.

Iar în ziua cea dintâi a Azimelor au venit ucenicii la Iisus şi I-au zis: „Unde voieşti să-Ţi pregătim să mănânci Paştile?“

Iar El le-a zis: „Mergeţi în cetate, la cutare, şi spuneţi-i: Învăţătorul zice: Timpul Meu este aproape; la tine voi face Paştile, cu ucenicii Mei“.

Şi ucenicii au făcut precum le-a poruncit Iisus şi au pregătit Paştile.

Iar când s'a făcut seară, a şezut la masă cu cei doisprezece ucenici ai Săi.

După spălarea picioarelor, In 13, 3-17; Mt 26, 21-39; Lc 22, 43-44; Mt 26, 40-75;27, 1-2. :

ştiind Iisus că Tatăl pe toate I le-a dat în mâini şi că de la Dumnezeu a ieşit şi la Dumnezeu merge,

S'a sculat de la Cină, S'a dezbrăcat de haine şi, luând un ştergar, S'a încins cu el.

După aceea a turnat apă în vasul de spălat şi a început să spele picioarele ucenicilor şi să le şteargă cu ştergarul cu care era încins.

A venit deci la Simon Petru. Acesta I-a zis: „Doamne, oare Tu să-mi speli mie picioarele?...“.

Iisus i-a răspuns, zicând: „Ceea ce fac Eu, tu nu ştii acum, dar vei înţelege după aceasta“.

Petru I-a zis: „Niciodată nu-mi vei spăla Tu mie picioarele!...“. Iisus i-a răspuns: „Dacă nu te voi spăla, nu ai parte cu Mine“.

Zisu-I-a Simon Petru: „Doamne, nu numai picioarele, ci şi mâinile şi capul...“.

Iisus i-a zis: „Cel ce s'a îmbăiat n'are nevoie să-i fie spălate decât picioarele, căci e curat c tot. Şi voi sunteţi curaţi, dar nu toţi...“.

Că-l ştia pe cel ce avea să-L vândă; de aceea a zis: „Nu toţi sunteţi curaţi“.

Deci, după ce le-a spălat picioarele şi Şi-a luat hainele, S'a aşezat iar la masă şi le-a zis: „Înţelegeţi ce am făcut Eu cu voi?:

Voi Mă numiţi pe Mine Învăţătorul şi Domnul, şi bine ziceţi, fiindcă sunt.

Deci dacă Eu, Domnul şi Învăţătorul, v'am spălat vouă picioarele, şi voi sunteţi datori să vă spălaţi picioarele unii altora;

că pildă v'am dat, ca şi voi să faceţi aşa cum am făcut Eu cu voi.

Adevăr, adevăr vă spun: Nu este sluga mai mare decât domnul ei, nici solul mai mare decât cel ce l-a trimis.

De vreme ce ştiţi acestea, fericiţi veţi fi de le veţi face.

Şi pe când mâncau, Iisus le-a zis: „Adevăr vă grăiesc că unul dintre voi Mă va vinde“.

Şi ei, întristându-se foarte, au început să-I zică fiecare: „Doamne, nu cumva sunt eu?...“.

Iar El, răspunzând, a zis: „Cel care a întins cu Mine în blid, acela Mă va vinde.

Fiul Omului merge precum este scris despre El. Dar vai acelui om prin care Fiul Omului e vândut; bine-i era aceluia de nu s'ar fi născut“.

Şi răspunzând Iuda, cel care L-a vândut, I-a zis: „Nu cumva sunt eu, Învăţătorule?...“. Răspunsu-i-a Iisus: „Tu ai zis“.

Iar pe când mâncau ei, Iisus, luând pâine şi binecuvântând, a frânt şi le-a dat ucenicilor, zicând: „Luaţi, mâncaţi, acesta este Trupul Meu“.

Şi luând paharul şi mulţumind, le-a dat, zicând: „Beţi dintru acesta toţi,

că acesta este Sângele Meu, al Legii celei Noi b, carele pentru mulţi se varsă spre iertarea păcatelor.

Şi vă spun Eu vouă că de acum nu voi mai bea din acest rod al viţei până în ziua aceea când îl voi bea cu voi, nou, întru împărăţia Tatălui Meu“.

Şi după ce au cântat imnuri, au ieşit la Muntele Măslinilor.

Atunci Iisus le-a zis: „În această noapte, voi toţi vă veţi poticni întru Mine, că scris este: Bate-voi păstorul şi se vor risipi oile turmei.

Dar după ce voi învia, voi merge mai înaintea voastră în Galileea“.

Iar Petru, răspunzând, I-a zis: „Dacă toţi se vor poticni întru Tine, eu niciodată nu mă voi poticni“.

Zisu-i-a Iisus: „Adevăr îţi spun că în această noapte, mai înainte de a cânta cocoşul, tu de trei ori te vei fi lepădat de Mine“.

Petru I-a zis: „Chiar de-ar trebui să mor împreună cu Tine, de Tine nu mă voi lepăda“. Şi toţi ucenicii au zis la fel.

Atunci Iisus a mers împreună cu ei într'un loc numit Ghetsimani şi le-a zis ucenicilor: „Şedeţi aici, până ce Mă voi duce acolo ca să Mă rog“.

Şi luând cu Sine pe Petru şi pe cei doi fii ai lui Zevedeu, a prins a se întrista şi a se mâhni.

Atunci le-a zis: „Întristat de moarte Îmi este sufletul. Rămâneţi aici şi privegheaţi împreună cu Mine“.

Şi mergând puţin mai înainte, a căzut cu faţa la pământ, rugându-Se şi zicând: „Părintele Meu, de este cu putinţă, treacă pe-alături de Mine paharul acesta!... Dar nu cum voiesc Eu, ci cum voieşti Tu“.

Iar un înger din cer I s'a arătat şi-L întărea.

Şi'n luptă cu moartea fiind, cu mai mare stăruinţă Se ruga. Şi sudoarea Lui s'a făcut ca nişte picături de sânge ce cădeau pe pământ.

Şi a venit la ucenici şi i-a găsit dormind şi i-a zis lui Petru: „Aşa, un ceas n'aţi fost în stare să privegheaţi împreună cu Mine!

Privegheaţi şi vă rugaţi, ca să nu intraţi în ispită. Că duhul este osârduitor, dar trupul, neputincios“.

Ducându-Se iarăşi, a doua oară, S'a rugat, zicând: „Părintele Meu, de nu-i cu putinţă să treacă pe-alături de Mine acest pahar, ca să nu-l beau, facă-se voia Ta!“

Şi venind iarăşi, i-a aflat dormind, că le erau ochii îngreuiaţi.

Şi lăsându-i, iarăşi S'a dus şi S'a rugat a treia oară, spunând aceleaşi cuvinte.

Apoi a venit la ucenici şi le-a zis: „De-acum dormiţi şi odihniţi-vă!... Iată, ceasul s'a apropiat şi Fiul Omului Se va da în mâinile păcătoşilor.

Sculaţi-vă să mergem; iată, s'a apropiat cel care Mă vinde...“.

Şi pe când El încă vorbea, iată, a venit Iuda, unul din cei doisprezece, şi împreună cu el o gloată mare cu săbii şi cu ciomege, trimişi de arhierei şi de bătrânii poporului.

Iar trădătorul le dăduse un semn, zicând: „Cel pe care-l voi săruta, acela este; prindeţi-l“.

Şi venind îndată la Iisus, I-a zis: „Bucură-te, Învăţătorule!“ Şi L-a sărutat.

Iar Iisus i-a zis: „Prietene, pentru ce ai venit?“ Atunci ei, apropiindu-se, au pus mâinile pe Iisus şi L-au prins.

Şi iată, unul dintre cei ce erau cu Iisus, întinzând mâna, şi-a scos sabia şi a lovit pe sluga arhiereului şi i-a tăiat urechea.

Atunci Iisus i-a zis: „Întoarce sabia ta la locul ei, că toţi cei ce scot sabia, de sabie vor pieri.

Sau crezi cumva că nu pot să-L rog pe Tatăl Meu şi să-Mi trimită acum mai mult de douăsprezece legiuni de îngeri?

Dar cum se vor plini Scripturile, că aşa trebuie să fie?“

În ceasul acela a zis Iisus către gloată: „Ca la un tâlhar aţi ieşit, cu săbii şi ciomege, ca să Mă prindeţi. În fiecare zi şedeam învăţând în templu şi n'aţi pus mâna pe Mine.

Dar toate acestea s'au făcut ca să se plinească Scripturile profeţilor“. Atunci toţi ucenicii L-au lăsat şi au fugit.

Iar cei ce L-au prins pe Iisus L-au dus la Caiafa, arhiereul, unde erau adunaţi cărturarii şi bătrânii.

Iar Petru L-a urmat de departe, până la curtea arhiereului; şi intrând înlăuntru, şedea cu slugile, ca să vadă sfârşitul.

Iar arhiereii, bătrânii şi tot sinedriul căutau mărturie mincinoasă împotriva lui Iisus, ca să-L omoare.

Şi n'au găsit, deşi veniseră mulţi martori mincinoşi. Mai pe urmă însă au venit doi

şi au zis: „Acesta a spus: Pot să dărâm templul lui Dumnezeu şi în trei zile să-l zidesc“.

Şi ridicându-se arhiereul, I-a zis: „Nu răspunzi nimic la ceea ce mărturisesc aceştia împotriva ta?“

Dar Iisus tăcea. Şi arhiereul I-a zis: „Juru-te pe Dumnezeu Cel-Viu să ne spui nouă dacă eşti tu Hristosul, Fiul lui Dumnezeu“.

Iisus i-a răspuns: „Tu ai zis c. Dar vă mai spun Eu vouă: De acum Îl veţi vedea pe Fiul Omului şezând de-a dreapta Puterii şi venind pe norii cerului“.

Atunci arhiereul şi-a sfâşiat veşmintele, zicând: „A spus o blasfemie! Ce nevoie mai avem de martori? Iată, acum i-aţi auzit blasfemia!

Ce părere aveţi?“ Iar ei, răspunzând, au zis: „Vinovat este de moarte!“

Atunci L-au scuipat în obraz şi L-au bătut cu pumnii; iar unii Îi dădeau palme,

zicând: „Profeţeşte-ne, Hristoase, care este cel ce te-a lovit?“...

Iar Petru şedea afară, în curte. Şi o slujnică s'a apropiat de el, zicând: „Şi tu erai cu Iisus Galileeanul!“

Dar el s'a lepădat în faţa tuturor, zicând: „Nu ştiu ce spui“.

Şi ieşind el la poartă, l-a văzut alta şi le-a spus celor de acolo: „Şi acesta era cu Iisus Nazarineanul!“

Şi iarăşi s'a lepădat cu jurământ: „Nu-l cunosc pe omul acesta!“

Iar după puţin, apropiindu-se cei ce stăteau acolo, i-au zis lui Petru: „Cu adevărat, şi tu eşti dintre ei, că şi graiul tău te vădeşte“.

Atunci el a început a se blestema şi a se jura: „Nu-l cunosc pe omul acesta!“... Şi îndată a cântat cocoşul.

Şi Petru şi-a adus aminte de cuvântul lui Iisus, Care-i spusese: „Mai înainte de a cânta cocoşul, tu de trei ori te vei fi lepădat de Mine“. Şi ieşind afară, a plâns cu amar.

Iar făcându-se dimineaţă, toţi arhiereii şi bătrânii poporului au ţinut sfat împotriva lui Iisus, ca să-L omoare.

Şi, legându-L, L-au dus şi L-au predat guvernatorului Ponţiu Pilat.

The Lord said to his disciples, "You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of man will be delivered up to be crucified."

Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, and took counsel together in order to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him. But they said, "Not during the feast, lest there be a tumult among the people."

Now when Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head, as he sat at table. But when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, "Why this waste? For this ointment might have been sold for a large sum, and given to the poor."

But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, "Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me.

For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me.

In pouring this ointment on my body she has done it to prepare me for burial. Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her."

Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, "What will you give me if I deliver him to you?" And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him.

Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Where will you have us prepare for you to eat the Passover?" He said, "Go into the city to a certain one, and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, My time is at hand; I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.'" And the disciples did as Jesus had directed them, and they prepared the Passover. When it was evening, he sat at table with the twelve disciples.

Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper, laid aside his garments, and girded himself with a towel. Then he poured water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which he was girded.

He came to Simon Peter; and Peter said to him, "Lord, do you wash my feet?" Jesus answered him, "What I am doing you do not know now, but afterward you will understand." Peter said to him, "You shall never wash my feet." Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part in me." Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!" Jesus said to him, "He who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but he is clean all over; and you are clean, but not every one of you." For he knew who was to betray him; that was why he said, "You are not all clean."

When he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, and resumed his place, he said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

And as they were eating, he said, "Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me." And they were very sorrowful, and began to say to him one after another, "Is it I, Lord?" He answered, "He who has dipped his hand in the dish with me, will betray me. The Son of man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born." Judas, who betrayed him, said, "Is it I, Master?" He said to him, "You have said so."

Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, "Take, eat; this is my body." And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, "Drink of it, all of you; for this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you I shall not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom."

And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. Then Jesus said to them, "You will all fall away because of me this night; for it is written, 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.' But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee." Peter declared to him, "Though they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away." Jesus said to him, "Truly, I say to you, this very night, before the cock crows, you will deny me three times." Peter said to him, "Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you." And so said all the disciples.

Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, "Sit here, while I go yonder and pray." And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, "My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me." And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, "My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will."

And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down upon the ground.

And rising from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter, "So, could you not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, "My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done." And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. So, leaving them again, he went away and prayed for the third time, saying the same words. Then he came to the disciples and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand."

While he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a great crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the elders of the people. Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, "The one I shall kiss is the man; seize him." And he came up to Jesus at once and said, "Hail, Rabbi!" And he kissed him. Jesus said to him, "Friend, why are you here?" Then they came up and laid hands on Jesus and seized him. And behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

Then Jesus said to him, "Put your sword back into its place; for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then should the scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?"

At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Day after day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. But all this has taken place, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples forsook him and fled.

Then those who had seized Jesus led him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had gathered. But Peter followed him at a distance, as far as the courtyard of the high priest, and going inside he sat with the guards to see the end. Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death, but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward and said, "This fellow said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.'"

And the high priest stood up and said, "Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?" But Jesus was silent. And the high priest said to him, "I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God."

Jesus said to him, "You have said so. But I tell you, hereafter you will see the Son of man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven." Then the high priest tore his robes, and said, "He has uttered blasphemy. Why do we still need witnesses? You have now heard his blasphemy. What is your judgment?" They answered, "He deserves death." Then they spat in his face, and struck him; and some slapped him, saying, "Prophesy to us, you Christ! Who is it that struck you?"

Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. And a maid came up to him, and said, "You also were with Jesus the Galilean." But he denied it before them all, saying, "I do not know what you mean." And when he went out to the porch, another maid saw him, and she said to the bystanders, "This man was with Jesus of Nazareth." And again he denied it with an oath, "I do not know the man." After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, "Certainly you are also one of them, for your accent betrays you."

Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, "I do not know the man." And immediately the cock crowed. And Peter remembered the saying of Jesus, "Before the cock crows, you will deny me three times." And he went out and wept bitterly.

When morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death; and they bound him and led him away and delivered him to Pilate the governor.

Lecture de l'Évangile selon Saint Jean
(du jour) (Mt XXVI,1-20, Jn XIII,3-17, Mt XXVI,21-39, Lc XXII,43-45, Mt XXVI,40-XXVII,2)

1 Lorsque Jésus eut achevé tous ces discours, il dit à ses disciples :
2 Vous savez que la Pâque a lieu dans deux jours, et que le Fils de l'homme sera livré pour être crucifié.
3 Alors les principaux sacrificateurs et les anciens du peuple se réunirent dans la cour du souverain sacrificateur, appelé Caïphe ;
4 et ils délibérèrent sur les moyens d'arrêter Jésus par ruse, et de le faire mourir.
5 Mais ils dirent : Que ce ne soit pas pendant la fête, afin qu'il n'y ait pas de tumulte parmi le peuple.
6 Comme Jésus était à Béthanie, dans la maison de Simon le lépreux,
7 une femme s'approcha de lui, tenant un vase d'albâtre, qui renfermait un parfum de grand prix ; et, pendant qu'il était à table, elle répandit le parfum sur sa tête.
8 Les disciples, voyant cela, s'indignèrent, et dirent : À quoi bon cette perte ?
9 On aurait pu vendre ce parfum très cher, et en donner le prix aux pauvres.
10 Jésus, s'en étant aperçu, leur dit : Pourquoi faites-vous de la peine à cette femme ? Elle a fait une bonne action à mon égard ;
11 car vous avez toujours des pauvres avec vous, mais vous ne m'avez pas toujours.
12 En répandant ce parfum sur mon corps, elle l'a fait pour ma sépulture.
13 Je vous le dis en vérité, partout où cette bonne nouvelle sera prêchée, dans le monde entier, on racontera aussi en mémoire de cette femme ce qu'elle a fait.
14 Alors l'un des douze, appelé Judas Iscariot, alla vers les principaux sacrificateurs,
15 et dit : Que voulez-vous me donner, et je vous le livrerai ? Et ils lui payèrent trente pièces d'argent.
16 Depuis ce moment, il cherchait une occasion favorable pour livrer Jésus.
17 Le premier jour des pains sans levain, les disciples s'adressèrent à Jésus, pour lui dire : Où veux-tu que nous te préparions le repas de la Pâque ?
18 Il répondit : Allez à la ville chez un tel, et vous lui direz : Le maître dit : Mon temps est proche ; je ferai chez toi la Pâque avec mes disciples.
19 Les disciples firent ce que Jésus leur avait ordonné, et ils préparèrent la Pâque.
20 Le soir étant venu, il se mit à table avec les douze.
3 Jésus, qui savait que le Père avait remis toutes choses entre ses mains, qu'il était venu de Dieu, et qu'il s'en allait à Dieu,
4 se leva de table, ôta ses vêtements, et prit un linge, dont il se ceignit.
5 Ensuite il versa de l'eau dans un bassin, et il se mit à laver les pieds des disciples, et à les essuyer avec le linge dont il était ceint.
6 Il vint donc à Simon Pierre ; et Pierre lui dit : Toi, Seigneur, tu me laves les pieds !
7 Jésus lui répondit : Ce que je fais, tu ne le comprends pas maintenant, mais tu le comprendras bientôt.
8 Pierre lui dit : Non, jamais tu ne me laveras les pieds. Jésus lui répondit : Si je ne te lave, tu n'auras point de part avec moi.
9 Simon Pierre lui dit : Seigneur, non seulement les pieds, mais encore les mains et la tête.
10 Jésus lui dit : Celui qui est lavé n'a besoin que de se laver les pieds pour être entièrement pur ; et vous êtes purs, mais non pas tous.
11 Car il connaissait celui qui le livrait ; c'est pourquoi il dit : Vous n'êtes pas tous purs.
12 Après qu'il leur eut lavé les pieds, et qu'il eut pris ses vêtements, il se remit à table, et leur dit : Comprenez-vous ce que je vous ai fait ?
13 Vous m'appelez Maître et Seigneur ; et vous dites bien, car je le suis.
14 Si donc je vous ai lavé les pieds, moi, le Seigneur et le Maître, vous devez aussi vous laver les pieds les uns aux autres ;
15 car je vous ai donné un exemple, afin que vous fassiez comme je vous ai fait.
16 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, le serviteur n'est pas plus grand que son seigneur, ni l'apôtre plus grand que celui qui l'a envoyé.
17 Si vous savez ces choses, vous êtes heureux, pourvu que vous les pratiquiez.
21 Pendant qu'ils mangeaient, il dit : Je vous le dis en vérité, l'un de vous me livrera.
22 Ils furent profondément attristés, et chacun se mit à lui dire : Est-ce moi, Seigneur ?
23 Il répondit : Celui qui a mis avec moi la main dans le plat, c'est celui qui me livrera.
24 Le Fils de l'homme s'en va, selon ce qui est écrit de lui. Mais malheur à l'homme par qui le Fils de l'homme est livré ! Mieux vaudrait pour cet homme qu'il ne fût pas né.
25 Judas, qui le livrait, prit la parole et dit : Est-ce moi, Rabbi ? Jésus lui répondit : Tu l'as dit.
26 Pendant qu'ils mangeaient, Jésus prit du pain ; et, après avoir rendu grâces, il le rompit, et le donna aux disciples, en disant : Prenez, mangez, ceci est mon corps.
27 Il prit ensuite une coupe ; et, après avoir rendu grâces, il la leur donna, en disant : Buvez-en tous ;
28 car ceci est mon sang, le sang de l'alliance, qui est répandu pour plusieurs, pour la rémission des péchés.
29 Je vous le dis, je ne boirai plus désormais de ce fruit de la vigne, jusqu'au jour où j'en boirai du nouveau avec vous dans le royaume de mon Père.
30 Après avoir chanté les cantiques, ils se rendirent à la montagne des oliviers.
31 Alors Jésus leur dit : Je serai pour vous tous, cette nuit, une occasion de chute ; car il est écrit : Je frapperai le berger, et les brebis du troupeau seront dispersées.
32 Mais, après que je serai ressuscité, je vous précèderai en Galilée.
33 Pierre, prenant la parole, lui dit : Quand tu serais pour tous une occasion de chute, tu ne le seras jamais pour moi.
34 Jésus lui dit : Je te le dis en vérité, cette nuit même, avant que le coq chante, tu me renieras trois fois.
35 Pierre lui répondit : Quand il me faudrait mourir avec toi, je ne te renierai pas. Et tous les disciples dirent la même chose.
36 Là-dessus, Jésus alla avec eux dans un lieu appelé Gethsémané, et il dit aux disciples : Asseyez-vous ici, pendant que je m'éloignerai pour prier.
37 Il prit avec lui Pierre et les deux fils de Zébédée, et il commença à éprouver de la tristesse et des angoisses.
38 Il leur dit alors : Mon âme est triste jusqu'à la mort ; restez ici, et veillez avec moi.
39 Puis, ayant fait quelques pas en avant, il se jeta sur sa face, et pria ainsi : Mon Père, s'il est possible, que cette coupe s'éloigne de moi ! Toutefois, non pas ce que je veux, mais ce que tu veux.
43 Alors un ange lui apparut du ciel, pour le fortifier.
44 Étant en agonie, il priait plus instamment, et sa sueur devint comme des grumeaux de sang, qui tombaient à terre.
45 Après avoir prié, il se leva, et vint vers les disciples, qu'il trouva endormis de tristesse.
40 Et il vint vers les disciples, qu'il trouva endormis, et il dit à Pierre : Vous n'avez donc pu veiller une heure avec moi !
41 Veillez et priez, afin que vous ne tombiez pas dans la tentation ; l'esprit est bien disposé, mais la chair est faible.
42 Il s'éloigna une seconde fois, et pria ainsi : Mon Père, s'il n'est pas possible que cette coupe s'éloigne sans que je la boive, que ta volonté soit faite !
43 Il revint, et les trouva encore endormis ; car leurs yeux étaient appesantis.
44 Il les quitta, et, s'éloignant, il pria pour la troisième fois, répétant les mêmes paroles.
45 Puis il alla vers ses disciples, et leur dit : Vous dormez maintenant, et vous vous reposez ! Voici, l'heure est proche, et le Fils de l'homme est livré aux mains des pécheurs.
46 Levez-vous, allons ; voici, celui qui me livre s'approche.
47 Comme il parlait encore, voici, Judas, l'un des douze, arriva, et avec lui une foule nombreuse armée d'épées et de bâtons, envoyée par les principaux sacrificateurs et par les anciens du peuple.
48 Celui qui le livrait leur avait donné ce signe : Celui que je baiserai, c'est lui ; saisissez-le.
49 Aussitôt, s'approchant de Jésus, il dit : Salut, Rabbi ! Et il le baisa.
50 Jésus lui dit : Mon ami, ce que tu es venu faire, fais-le. Alors ces gens s'avancèrent, mirent la main sur Jésus, et le saisirent.
51 Et voici, un de ceux qui étaient avec Jésus étendit la main, et tira son épée ; il frappa le serviteur du souverain sacrificateur, et lui emporta l'oreille.
52 Alors Jésus lui dit : Remets ton épée à sa place ; car tous ceux qui prendront l'épée périront par l'épée.
53 Penses-tu que je ne puisse pas invoquer mon Père, qui me donnerait à l'instant plus de douze légions d'anges ?
54 Comment donc s'accompliraient les Écritures, d'après lesquelles il doit en être ainsi ?
55 En ce moment, Jésus dit à la foule : Vous êtes venus, comme après un brigand, avec des épées et des bâtons, pour vous emparer de moi. J'étais tous les jours assis parmi vous, enseignant dans le temple, et vous ne m'avez pas saisi.
56 Mais tout cela est arrivé afin que les écrits des prophètes fussent accomplis. Alors tous les disciples l'abandonnèrent, et prirent la fuite.
57 Ceux qui avaient saisi Jésus l'emmenèrent chez le souverain sacrificateur Caïphe, où les scribes et les anciens étaient assemblés.
58 Pierre le suivit de loin jusqu'à la cour du souverain sacrificateur, y entra, et s'assit avec les serviteurs, pour voir comment cela finirait.
59 Les principaux sacrificateurs et tout le sanhédrin cherchaient quelque faux témoignage contre Jésus, suffisant pour le faire mourir.
60 Mais ils n'en trouvèrent point, quoique plusieurs faux témoins se fussent présentés. Enfin, il en vint deux, qui dirent :
61 Celui-ci a dit : Je puis détruire le temple de Dieu, et le rebâtir en trois jours.
62 Le souverain sacrificateur se leva, et lui dit : Ne réponds-tu rien ? Qu'est-ce que ces hommes déposent contre toi ?
63 Jésus garda le silence. Et le souverain sacrificateur, prenant la parole, lui dit : Je t'adjure, par le Dieu vivant, de nous dire si tu es le Christ, le Fils de Dieu.
64 Jésus lui répondit : Tu l'as dit. De plus, je vous le déclare, vous verrez désormais le Fils de l'homme assis à la droite de la puissance de Dieu, et venant sur les nuées du ciel.
65 Alors le souverain sacrificateur déchira ses vêtements, disant : Il a blasphémé ! Qu'avons-nous encore besoin de témoins ? Voici, vous venez d'entendre son blasphème. Que vous en semble ?
66 Ils répondirent : Il mérite la mort.
67 Là-dessus, ils lui crachèrent au visage, et lui donnèrent des coups de poing et des soufflets en disant :
68 Christ, prophétise ; dis-nous qui t'a frappé.
69 Cependant, Pierre était assis dehors dans la cour. Une servante s'approcha de lui, et dit : Toi aussi, tu étais avec Jésus le Galiléen.
70 Mais il le nia devant tous, disant : Je ne sais ce que tu veux dire.
71 Comme il se dirigeait vers la porte, une autre servante le vit, et dit à ceux qui se trouvaient là ; Celui-ci était aussi avec Jésus de Nazareth.
72 Il le nia de nouveau, avec serment : Je ne connais pas cet homme.
73 Peu après, ceux qui étaient là, s'étant approchés, dirent à Pierre : Certainement tu es aussi de ces gens-là, car ton langage te fait reconnaître.
74 Alors il se mit à faire des imprécations et à jurer : Je ne connais pas cet homme. Aussitôt le coq chanta.
75 Et Pierre se souvint de la parole que Jésus avait dite : Avant que le coq chante, tu me renieras trois fois. Et étant sorti, il pleura amèrement.
1 Dès que le matin fut venu, tous les principaux sacrificateurs et les anciens du peuple tinrent conseil contre Jésus, pour le faire mourir.
2 Après l'avoir lié, ils l'emmenèrent, et le livrèrent à Ponce Pilate, le gouverneur.
