Pr. prof. Ion Ciungu
"The Latin
Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, led Good Friday
prayers at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre on Friday, marking the Passion of
Christ at the site of Jesus’ crucifixion and burial. The service unfolded under
tight security, reflecting the wider tensions in the region, as Christian
leaders sought to maintain sacred traditions at one of Christianity’s holiest
sites. Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa also presided over the Veneration of
the Holy Cross within the sacred precincts of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
In a striking and somber departure from tradition, the faithful were absent,
kept away by restrictions imposed by Israeli police in light of the ongoing
war. Although Israel had earlier prevented the Latin Patriarch from celebrating
Palm Sunday at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the ban was later reversed
following an international outcry. The Cardinal blessed the entire world with a
fragment of the True Cross—the original wood on which Christ was crucified.
According to tradition, it was discovered in Jerusalem by Saint Helena in the fourth
century. Preserved and venerated ever since, it remains a witness to the
Passion and the sacrifice of Christ." https://www.facebook.com/reel/2415272338911410
"Today, the Holy
Sepulchre resounds with the prayers of the Last Supper. In a year marked by
silence and restrictions, the Latin
Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, presided over the
Mass of the Lord’s Supper and the solemn Procession of the Blessed Sacrament.
In his poignant homily, he emphasized that "the body broken on the altar
is the same body that kneels before the disciples". Reflecting on Jesus's
words to Peter, the Cardinal exhorted the faithful of the Holy Land to not
resist Jesus, but to allow themselves to be loved by Christ so that they too
may learn to serve ike him in humility, and to be led into reality with a new
gaze; passing "from selfdefence to selfgiving", "from fear to
trust", and "from pride to communion". " https://www.facebook.com/reel/926766013673878
