Sub cupola mică este locul unde a fost răstignit Domnul nostru Iisus Hristos, loc numit Golgota sau Calvar, care înseamnă Craniu sau Locul Craniului. Sub cupola mare este mormântul din care a înviat Domnul nostru Iisus Hristos. CAPELA LUI ADAM ESTE LA PARTER. DEASUPRA EI ESTE CAPELA GOLGOTEI. Potrivit Sfintelor Evanghelii, Iisus a fost răstignit la locul numit Golgota. Potrivit unei tradiții vechi, numele locului vine de la Craniul lui Adam, primul om, care fusese îngropat acolo cu mii de ani înainte. Crucea pe care a fost răstignit Iisus a fost înfiptă deasupra craniului lui Adam. În timp ce Iisus era răstignit pe cruce, a avut loc un cutremur de pământ și stâncile s-au despicat (Matei 27, 51), iar sângele lui Iisus s-a scurs de pe cruce până pe craniul lui Adam. Astfel, Iisus a spălat păcatul lui Adam. Prin sacrificiul Său, Iisus a înfăptuit răscumpărarea oamenilor din proprietatea veșnic chinuitoare a lui Satan. De asemenea, Iisus a înfăptuit și înfierea oamenilor în proprietatea veșnic fericită a lui Dumnezeu Tatăl Ceresc Atotsfânt și Atotputernic. Sacrificiul lui Iisus este valabil pentru orice om care se încrede în El și vrea să moștenească, conform Noului Testament, viața nouă pe care El ne-o oferă.

Why is the place where Jesus was crucified called Golgotha—“the Place of the Skull”?

 

Beyond the idea that the hill looked like a skull, an ancient Christian tradition gives a deeper meaning. Early Church Fathers such as Origen and Epiphanius of Salamis recorded a belief that Adam, the first man, was buried at Golgotha.

 

According to this tradition, Adam’s skull lay beneath the very hill where Jesus was crucified.

When Christ died and the earth shook

⚜ (Matthew 27:51), the rock split open. Tradition says the precious blood of Jesus flowed down from the cross and touched the skull of Adam.

The first Adam brought sin and death into the world.

 

Jesus, the “Second Adam,” brought forgiveness and new life.

 

As Scripture declares:

 

☦ “For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.” — 1 Corinthians 15:22

 

That is why many Christian icons and crucifixes show a skull at the foot of the cross—a reminder that Christ’s sacrifice redeems humanity from the very beginning.

 

From the Garden of Eden to the hill of Golgotha, God’s plan of salvation points to Jesus our Redeemer.
